What are Head Lice?
Head Lice are wingless insects, which can survive only on human blood on the scalp. 

Nits are lice eggs, which are glued onto strands of hair by lice.  

 

How did I get Head Lice?

An individual has head lice because they have Friends, Hair and Blood

Why are over the counter and prescription Head Lice Treatments ineffective?

A Louse can hold it's breath up to 8 hours, making chemical insecticide treatments ineffective in exterminating the bugs.  A Nit is encased in a shell protecting it from chemical insecticide treatments.

 

Why was I not itchy when I had Head Lice?

Only 50% of those with lice will feel itchy.

How do Head Lice get around?

Head Lice only crawl, they do not fly or jump.

What type of hair do Head Lice Prefer?

Head Lice like every type of hair (clean, dirty, color treated, chemically processed).

What is the cycle of Head Lice?

A fertilized female head louse can lay up to 10 nits a day.  7 days after the louse is laid, it hatches into a first stage nymph, a nymph is a baby louse.  It takes the nymph 7 days to grow into an adult louse, at which time the male fertilizes the female and the cycle continues until the Quicker Nit Pickers treat the hair and remove every louse and nit.

 

Are Head Lice a health concern?

Head lice are a nuisance to our physical and mental health, thankfully head lice do not carry diseases, this is why the CDC have not labeled head lice as a health concern.
